  Traffic Safety & Obstacle Course Activity Set

  Create an active learning environment where children can build obstacle courses, design pathways, practice directional skills, and invent movement challenges using traffic cones, a create-a-course activity set, and three 60-yard rolls of colorful masking tape. Designed for ages 3 years and up, this versatile gross motor set encourages movement, coordination, spatial awareness, problem-solving, and cooperative play while giving teachers the flexibility to create new activities again and again.

  CURRICULUM GUIDE

  Design Your Own Obstacle Course
  Use the cones and course-building materials to create stations for walking, running, jumping, weaving, balancing, and changing direction. Adjust the course as children's abilities progress to introduce increasingly challenging gross motor experiences.

  Follow the Road
  Use the orange, yellow, and white masking tape to create roads, intersections, starting lines, stopping points, and directional paths on appropriate surfaces. Children follow the routes while practicing concepts such as forward, backward, beside, around, between, left, and right.

  Traffic Safety Learning Center
  Transform the activity area into a pretend neighborhood. Use cones and taped pathways to introduce stop-and-go concepts, pedestrian crossings, traffic lanes, and basic road safety while children ride, walk, or pretend to drive through the course.

  Color-Coded Movement Challenge
  Assign a different movement to each tape color. For example, children might jump along orange, tiptoe along yellow, and walk heel-to-toe along white. This combines color recognition, listening, memory, and gross motor development.

  Create-a-Course STEM Challenge
  Give small groups the materials and challenge them to design their own course. Ask children to decide where the path should begin and end, where cones should be positioned, and how participants will travel through it. Test each design and discuss what could be changed or improved.

  Directional Language & Listening Game
  Give multi-step directions such as, "Walk around the cone, follow the yellow line, and stop at the white line." Gradually increase the number of steps to strengthen receptive language, listening comprehension, memory, and spatial vocabulary.
